The Bernabéu will be transformed into tennis courts for the Mutua Madrid Open

The stadium will be converted from 23 to 30 April to host the tournament’s stars

Madrid will once again be the epicentre of world tennis during the last week of April and the first few days of May. But this time, the tournament brings a new feature and the debut of a new venue: the Bernabéu.

From 20 April to 3 May, the world’s top players will be competing at the Caja Mágica for the title won in 2025 by Casper Ruud in the men’s draw and, in the women’s draw, by the tournament’s reigning champion, Aryna Sabalenka. This year, the big stars will be able to head to the Bernabéu to train.

Between 23 and 30 April, the Madrid stadium will be adapted so that the tournament’s top stars can train in the mornings at this magnificent venue. It will be extremely convenient for them, as they are staying at the Eurobuilding Hotel, just a minute’s drive from the Bernabéu.

The Bernabéu pitch, as is the case after every match, will be rolled up after the game against Alavés, which will be played midweek on the 21st or 22nd. The stadium will then be adapted for the tennis players. Because, as happened with the NFL’s visit to the Bernabéu, the team will be going on a tour.

With LaLiga being played in close quarters with Barcelona, Arbeloa’s side will have to face three consecutive away league fixtures. And tricky ones at that: Betis, Espanyol and Camp Nou. Madrid will not return home for a league match until 13 May (Oviedo).

The Champions League semi-finals could come into play along the way if Madrid knock Bayern out in the quarter-finals. The first leg is scheduled to be played during the Mutua Madrid Open, on 28–29 April. But if Madrid qualify, the first leg will be away, as they will take the top seed spot from the Bavarians, who finished second in the group stage. The second leg is set for after the tennis tournament, on 8 or 9 May.

With no concerts on the horizon, Madrid’s stadium is pressing ahead with its ambition to become a leading venue for sporting events. The NFL has already been there, a Topuria fight is in the pipeline, and the NBA has it in mind. (MARCA, 25 March 2026)
